Home Invasions Are On The Rise, What To Do

Most homeowners worry about being the victim of a burglary because that is one of the most common kinds of property crimes in the United States today.
However, another more dangerous crime is on the rise and people should be taking more precautions to avoid it.
Home invasions are similar to burglaries in that a stranger breaks into your house to steal your valuables, but there is one huge difference between the two.
Burglaries happen when you are not at home and home invasions happen when you are.
As you can imagine, home invasions are extremely dangerous situations.
You never know what someone will do to make sure he doesn't get caught in the middle of a crime.
In addition, because they do not want to leave witnesses to their crimes, your very life could be in danger if you are the victim of a home invasion.
One of the main reasons why criminals choose to commit a home invasion instead of a typical burglary is that they are banking on the fact that they will not have to disarm a home security system because people rarely arm them when they are at home.
This is why you should always turn your home security system on when you are at home.
It doesn't seem like you should have to since you are in there watching over your property yourself.
However, criminals are very sneaky.
You probably won't hear anyone outside your home until they are inside, because this is how they operate.
They rely on the element of surprise to overwhelm the homeowners.
By the time you get up and out of your chair to see what's going on, they will likely already have you at gunpoint or even tied up.
Once they are in, if your alarm doesn't go off and notify the authorities, the criminals can pretty much do whatever they want to your family without the threat of being caught.
Since they don't have to worry about a time frame, which burglars do because they have to think about getting out before you come home, home invaders can take their time and make sure you give them everything they want, including the contents of safes, valuables, keys to vehicles, PIN numbers to debit cards and more.
Home invaders are bold and brazen criminals who will do whatever it takes to get what they want and get away without being caught.
However, you can make yourself less of a target by ensuring that you always arm your alarm system, even if you are at home.
