What is a Motivational Speaker?

Regardless of what industry you work in (or would like to work in) there are bound to be events, conferences, seminars, meet-ups or even social groups designed to help you learn or improve on new skills and tactics to help you become more successful at your job.
These events also act as a great way to network with others who share the very same goals that you do.
Whether it's learning how to better your own set of skills or discovering new ways to accomplish tasks you're currently working on, these events will most likely involve topic-driven sessions or public speeches given by well-known individuals designed to help motivate (or even inspire) you to become a smarter, more informed worker.
A lot of times motivational speakers will give smaller audiences (i.
e.
a group of company employees) talks on how to improve the way they interact with each other as a team.
It's a motivational speakers job to inspire their audience to work better, smarter with the ultimate goal of improving the over-all success of the group or team involved.
Famous motivational speakers throughout the years include names like Deepak Chopra, publisher of over 45 books, Anthony "Tony" Robbins, known for his inspirational talks on team building, and Marshall Goldsmith, author and well known publisher of over 34 books primarily focusing on the qualities behind improving team leadership within a company.
Key benefits behind using or even attending a talk given by a motivational speaker include everything from helping to bring teams together in their work, improving the way in which a company is run or operates, but ultimately the main benefit is to motivate the audience to become better at what they do.
The bottom line is a motivational speaker should help improve the over-all quality of work produced by the attending crowd, resulting in an increase in company morale as well as an increase in profits.
Other motivational speakers sometimes are just individuals who have become famous for overcoming tremendous adversities and in doing so have gained the ability to share with others what knowledge they have learned from their experiences.
These types of experiences can range from Olympic Gold Medal winners to survivors of plane crashes to even people that have struggled to build up their own organization or company despite working against the odds.
These types of speakers inspire you to never give up, to always think about a better way of working, or even just give you an example that whatever problems you might be facing are pale in comparison to what others have been able to over-come.
Regardless of what type of motivational speaker you encounter, one of the most common traits that you'll find is that their main goal is to help coach the audience to achieve more, some even offering question and answer sessions following their talks to help the crowd with specific problems that they might be facing.
Occasionally you'll even have motivational speakers who encourage their audience to follow up with them at a later date to go over what progress has been made since the initial speech.
Either way, a motivational speaker's job is to do just what their title entails, they motivate.
