Though Rochester, New York, is home to a number of hot nightclubs, few specialize in foreign culture or entertainment. However, the city does host a few foreign bars and nightclubs that cater to patrons looking for a more exotic night on the town in the Flower City. - Offering English hospitality into the wee hours of the night, the Old Toad is one of the most unusual bars in Rochester. It employs many foreign exchange students from England, and every server and bartender in the place has a thick English accent. The Old Toad offers late-night entertainment including a popular trivia night every Monday, a secluded lounge with a fireplace and, of course, plenty of beer. With many U.K. specialty beers on tap, even regular patrons can expect to find a new beer with nearly every visit.

However, Nasty D's transforms every Wednesday night for Midnight Tango (see Resources), one of the club's most popular events. Taking over the entire dance floor above the bar, the night begins with tango lessons by an Argentinian dance teacher. Then veterans and beginners join around 10 p.m. for a traditional milonga, a tango dance party at which dancers continually exchange partners. The event goes well past midnight.

In addition to Latin menu options (such as chorizo mussels and spicy jambalaya) and a full bar, the nightclub features a Latin band every Saturday night. Admission is free. Tapas 177 also features free salsa dancing lessons every Thursday night beginning at 9:30. Singles, couples and parties are welcome. Other club events include wine tastings and Friday night dance parties.
