How to Make Snowflakes With Glue

    • 1). Print out a basic snowflake pattern (see Resources) or draw one of your own on a sheet of white paper. Trace the outline with a black marker. Use large patterns with simple designs for young children.

    • 2). Place the snowflake pattern on a flat work surface where it can be left to dry overnight. Secure the edges of the paper to the table with tape. Cover the pattern with a sheet of waxed paper. Tape the waxed paper to the table to avoid slipping.

    • 3). Trace the pattern with white glue. If you choose the patten available in the resource section, the glue will replace the white areas in the pattern. Create simple designs with straight lines for younger children. Work slowly , using a small squeeze bottle to write with the glue creating a 1/8- to 1/4-inch strip of glue. An old ketchup or mustard dispenser works well. Be sure to trace all connected lines and avoid skips.

    • 4). Cut a 3- to 4-inch of fine ribbon of fish line. Fold in half and insert the ends into the glue at the top of the snowflake. Press down with the tip of a pencil to secure it in the glue.

    • 5). Sprinkle gold or silver glitter over the glue to create a sparkling snowflake. Position sequins, beads or other decorative small decorative items with tweezers to create the look you desire.

    • 6). Allow the snowflake to set overnight to dry completely. Remove the snowflake by gently peeling it away from the waxed paper.

    • 7). Display in windows or hang on the tree.
