How to Calculate License and Title Tax
- 1). Start with the price of the car you want to purchase.
- 2). For a close estimate of the cost of the license and title fees, multiply the price of the car by 1.5 percent. If the car costs $21,035 the calculation would look like this: $21,035 x .015 = $315.52.
- 3). Add the cost of the license and title fees to the purchase price. Remember, the final purchase price may also include a sales tax, destination fees, a dealer's fee and the cost of any options you want to buy for the car you've chosen.
- 4). For an exact calculation of the license and title fees in your state, check with the Division of Motor Vehicles. Many of these agencies include a simple license and title fee calculator on their websites.
