Cheap Ideas for Teenage Girls' Rooms

    Framed Wall Art

    • Rather than buying custom art for your teen's room, encourage him to frame some of his own paintings or paper crafts. Place these throughout the room as decor. If your son doesn't like to draw or paint, you can buy affordable stock images online and frame these or pick up discounted art at department stores.

    Discontinued Bedding

    • Buy your teen discontinued sheets, comforters, pillowcases and blankets rather than spending a fortune on the latest trends. Many department stores sell decorative discontinued bedding that still appeals to teens at discounted prices. Discontinued items are typically marked down to make room for new inventory. Look for deals at local department stores, or call around town to see what's available.

    Decorative Bulletin Board

    • Dress up your teen's walls with a decorative bulletin board. Buy a cork bulletin board with pink or blue trim. If you can't find one with colored trim, use a hot glue gun to attach embellishments, such as red heart charms for a girl or small baseballs and footballs for a boy. Help your teen adorn the board with her favorite photos of family and friends, awards and homemade crafts. She can also attach a few long thumbtacks on the board to hang necklaces and bracelets on. Most standard bulletin boards are affordable, but you can find even cheaper boards at thrift stores or garage sales.

    Garage Sale Finds

    • Take your teen shopping for items at garage sales. At first, some teens might not want to go this route, but encourage your teenager to give it a chance. Many gently used decorative finds are seen at garage sales. Look for decorative mirrors with silver or iron edging, picture frames, bean bag chairs, art, desks and other essentials needed for your teen's room.
