How to Get the Title to Your Auto When Your Wife Dies

    • 1). Go to one of your city's Department of Motor Vehicles offices and show the attendant the deceased's current auto title. You will have to show identification and documentation that prove you are the executor of your spouse's estate.

    • 2). Fill out and return a Request for Title Transfer form that will be given to you by the attendant.

    • 3). Appoint yourself, the beneficiary, as the person to whom the title will be transferred. You can do this by filling out and returning the next set of appropriate documents that the attendant gives you.

    • 4). Pay the fee (which, as of 2010, is usually about $50) to transfer the title into your name. This fee may differ from state to state, but it should generally be in this price range.
