The Agony of Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a unbearable skin condition that is characterized by skin patches that grow uncontrollably. These patches can be found all over the body in places as the scalp, back, legs, knees and arms. However, it appears that most people have these patches on their scalp. In fact, for an outsider looking in, this growth would appear to be an extreme case of dandruff when it plagues a person on the scalp. However, for anyone who has this skin condition, they can tell you that it is by far much more painful, serious and embarrassing than having uncontrollable dandruff.

Psoriasis is a skin condition where the sufferer has patches of white or red skin. These patches of skin tend to constantly itch and flake. This makes life almost unbearable for the person who suffers with this skin condition. Although psoriasis is not contagious, it is many times very embarrassing for the person who has it. This is because it has a way of looking quite nasty to anyone who comes into contact with it. If the patches appear in a spot that can be fully clothed, the sufferer does not have to endure much embarrassment. However, for those spots that are not easy to hide, such as the scalp, psoriasis can be very hard to handle on a daily basis. It is even more of an eyesore when the patches grow too thick and start to bleed.

There are many theories for what causes psoriasis. Most medical professionals claim that it is hereditary. However, there are others that say otherwise. It can be argued that psoriasis is linked to poor dietary habits. Thus, if you eat a diet that is filled with lots of sugar, fats and oils, then you increase your chances of suffering from psoriasis. However, if bad diet is a trigger for this skin condition, then this could be one of the reasons that it is considered to be hereditary. Members of the immediate family tend to eat the same foods. Couldn't one argue that psoriasis might not be hereditary if this is the case?

Psoriasis is also believed to be triggered by other factors such as stress, alcohol, a poor immune system and the list could go on and on. A person who suffers from a bad case of psoriasis can have the same symptoms that are associated with other conditions such as allergies. For instance, a psoriasis sufferer has the same type of dry, itchy peeling skin that a person has when they are affected by a food allergy. This is why many doctors will put psoriasis sufferers on a special diet to rule out certain allergies. They want to find out how much of a role that your diet plays on your skin condition. Thus, psoriasis has to be diagnosed properly before it can be treated.

Psoriasis is a skin condition that has to be diagnosed on a case by case basis. There are so many different things that can trigger an outbreak that it is often hard to prescribe a blanket one fit all medication for patients. In fact, many doctors have to customize programs and medication for patients who suffer from this skin condition. There are so many things that have to be ruled out before a solid conclusion can be drawn. But, it is known that most of the medications that are available are only temporary in nature. They make work for a little while until the next round of psoriasis breakouts. Keep in mind that each one can have different things that trigger them. So, the prescribed form of treatment could possibly change each and every time.

Psoriasis is a very irritating skin condition that makes your skin red, patchy and very itchy. Most patients realize that psoriasis is not a condition that sticks around constantly. It tends to strike for a while and then leave. As a result, more and more patients are trying to find out what causes their bouts of psoriasis. They have realized that it is somewhat easier to find the trigger than dealing with psoriasis once it has arrived and become a full blown irritation. Some of these triggers are known to be diet, stress, alcohol, the wrong type of clothing. Once you figure out how each of these things affect the way in which psoriasis enters your life, it will make things much more bearable for you in the long run.
