Macronutrient Diets
- Eat healthy carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are a vital part of a macronutrient diet. There are good carbs and bad carbs. Bad carbs like crescent roles and pasta can cause you to gain weight while good carbs can give you energy. Healthy carbohydrates are also whole grains like millet and barley. While on the macronutrient diet, be sure to include healthy carbs in every meal. Carbohydrates come in the form of sugars and other foods such as bread pasta and vegetables. Some carbs such as veggies are better for you because they are low in calories and high in nutrients. If you are following a macronutrient diet, you need to have a good balance of carbs, fats and proteins each day.
Eat oatmeal with bananas for breakfast. Healthy carbohydrates to eat at dinner would be spinach and carrots with some type of protein. For lunch have a green salad with extra carrots and tomatoes. Snack on apples or apricots during the day. - Eat healthy fats. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats needed for a healthy heart and brain. The American Heart Association says that omega-3 fatty acids help to reduce triglycerides levels in the blood. These healthy fats are found in many foods such as salmon, nuts and even sea vegetables like spirulina. The body does not make omega-3 fats so you must get them from your diet. You can also take omega-3 supplements such as cod live oil or omega capsules. These can be found at your local health food store.
Stay away from fried foods as these contain bad fats. Avoid products that have hydrogenated oil listed on their ingredients. Cook with coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. - Eat foods that are rich in protein once or twice daily. A balanced macronutrient diet contains protein. Good choices are salmon, chicken, eggs and buffalo. However, if you are a vegetarian there are other sources of complete proteins. Spirulina is a good choice as this food contains omega-3 fats and protein. You can also try tofu, beans and other sea vegetables.
Stay away from fatty protein like processed meat and pork. If you really love hamburgers, try buffalo burger. Buffalo is much leaner than beef.
