How to Keep Chipmunks Out of a Stored Camper

- 1). Move your camper away from stone walls and fallen logs. Cover all openings in your camper with wire screen. Put moth balls in your camper. Most exterminators agree that chipmunks detest the smell of moth balls even more than people do.
- 2). Set cage traps around your camper. Bait the traps with peanut butter, unshelled nuts, dried fruit or breakfast cereal. Do not set the traps for three or four days after you begin baiting them to fool the chipmunks into thinking the trap is safe.
- 3). Transport trapped chipmunks at least 5 miles away before setting them free. If you release them closer they may find their way back.
- 4). Buy a cat or a terrier and let your pet guard your camper. Both animals view chipmunks less sentimentally than people do.
