How to Care for Agapanthus After Blooming

    • 1). Continue to regularly water your agapanthus as you would during any other time. You will want to make sure that you water deeply so that you can help the plants to develop extensive root systems. You should water the plants when the top three inches of soil has become dry.

    • 2). Divide clumps of the agapanthus, according to the size that you would like to plant in another area of your garden, by using a sharp knife to cut through the root system. Be gentle with the divisions and replant them within a few days of dividing the plants.

    • 3). Deadhead the blooms that have died in order to encourage new growth on that particular stem.

    • 4). Fertilize the plant every two weeks with a water-soluble fertilizer. The best time to do this is while you are watering the plants. Be sure to follow the directions on the fertilizer container for how much fertilizer to use as each brand and type vary.
