What Questions Are Asked at Green Card Appointments?

    Work Questions

    • At a green card interview, you may be asked questions about your career or job, especially if your employer is sponsoring you. You will likely be asked about work you have done in the past, as well as employment you are currently holding.

    Relationship Questions

    • Many people who attempt to get a green card are sponsored by their spouse. If so, you are likely to receive many questions related to your relationship. You will be asked basic questions, such as where and how you met your spouse, and any plans the two of you have for the future, such as moving or having children. You may also have to answer questions about you and your spouse's dating period, marriage proposal and wedding.

    Family Questions

    • If you have children, you are likely to receive questions about them. You may be asked how your children were born, what toys they enjoy and who their friends are. If your spouse was previously divorced, you will need to answer questions about the situation. You may need to answer questions about your spouse's family members and friends.

    Living Conditions Questions

    • You will be asked very detailed questions about your current living conditions, such as what type of dwelling you inhabit, and where you keep certain items, including telephones, towels and dirty laundry. You may need to answer detailed questions about items you own, such as camcorders, televisions and DVD players. You will also be asked about your spouse's job, income and who handles the bills.

    Lifestyle Questions

    • You are likely to be asked about household chores, who in the household takes care of grocery-shopping and if you have any pets. You will be asked detailed questions about your spouse's favorite things and any presents you may have given each other. Other questions include whether you and your spouse attend religious services and what you do for entertainment. You may even be asked very personal questions, such as the type of birth control you use.
