How to Prove Citizenship in Arizona

1). Identify the source of your U.S. citizenship. Sources include being born in the U.S. or its territories and military bases, having parents who are U.S. citizens, obtaining naturalization or having parents who became U.S. citizens when you were a minor.
2). Present your U.S. passport, or obtain a passport. A U.S. passport is proof of U.S. citizenship.
3). Show your state-issued birth certificate, if you were born in the United States. A hospital-issued birth certificate will not suffice. If you do not have your birth certificate, you usually can obtain one from the county government in your county of birth. An official state-issued birth certificate from within the U.S. is proof of U.S. citizenship.
4). Submit your certificate of consular registration of birth, if you were born outside the U.S. to a U.S.-citizen parent. U.S. consulates in foreign countries issue these certificates to U.S. citizens if they apply within five years of the child's birth. If, however, your parents failed to obtain a certificate or it has been lost, you will need to use another form of proof.
5). Present your naturalization certificate, if you were naturalized. When an individual is naturalized, the federal government issues a naturalization certificate, which is proof of U.S. citizenship.
6). Show your certificate of citizenship, which can be obtained from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Obtaining this certificate is more difficult and takes longer than obtaining a U.S. passport.
