Teachers In Chicago Want Another Week Off - Let"s Give Them The Rest of The Year
As soon as school year started in the 2012 - 2013 school year the Chicago teachers decided to go on strike.
That left 350,000 kids without school for a week.
Rather than settling the strike, the union voted to go for another week, apparently they didn't get a long enough vacation over the summer, and they felt the extra week still wasn't enough.
Perhaps one way to handle this is to give them the rest of the year off.
Better yet give them the rest of their life off, fire them, let them all go, and fire old new teachers, just think how many kids have got out of college wishing to become teachers and would love to have those jobs? How long would it take? I bet you could have all those new teachers up and running in no time, and think of all the money you'd save? You'd save enough money to redo all the schools, give every kid an iPad, and give every home of every student super high Internet speed so they can do much of their studying online at home.
Why not? It is interesting that teachers want more and more money, but each year they become more obsolete.
Soon, they won't be needed at all, in fact we could probably hire social robots to do a better job, and the kids can learn math, science, and much of the other important subjects online, watching YouTube videos.
How do I know this? Because most of my education has been self-taught, and currently I do all my studying online, and it's all free.
If information is free, and the Internet has made it so, then why are we charging the taxpayer for all these expensive teachers, their legacy costs, their Cadillac healthcare benefits and pensions? Further, why do we have to deal with bad behavior of teachers going on strike during the school year? Indeed, I don't know how it is where you live, but where I live they wanted the kids to start a week earlier this year so that they could keep up their standards and teach all the kids everything they needed to know to ensure they could pass those tests.
It seems that now the Chicago schools have received a waiver from the Obama Administration for the "No Child Left Behind Act" and although I question much of the theory behind teaching to tests and standardized testing, I do understand the need for a minimum baseline.
Still, with regards to the teachers in Chicago now, I guess they have a few weeks extra that they can burn in a strike since they are exempt from even the minimum standards.
However if the teachers aren't teaching to the minimum standards, or can't handle it, then maybe they aren't good enough to teach at all, maybe we need to get rid of them anyway? You see, I don't have anything against teachers, I'm just saying.
