How to Decorate a Cowboy Style Family Room
- 1). Paint the walls to fit into your decorating scheme. Beige, brown, green, terra cotta or other earth tones might work best for a western theme. If you want your family room to feel sophisticated, consider a simple tan color. Use rope along the top of the wall as a border to add cowboy charm to the walls. A mural that depicts a scene from your favorite cowboy movie, an open range or another cowboy-related image can act as the inspiration and focal point for the rest of your decor.
- 2). Place your furniture in the room around your focal point. If you have a mural on the wall, the sofas and chairs should face that wall so guests have a view of the mural. Dark leather can work for rustic or formal family rooms. Other options include covering your sofas in cow prints or denim. Natural wood tables, shelves and other accent pieces will complement your western theme.
- 3). Hang pictures, mirrors, artwork or other accessories on the walls to pull your theme together. Metal horseshoes, Texas stars, boots, a cowboy hat collection, a rope-framed mirror or pictures of your favorite cowboys could all serve to complement your room. Pictures of horses, silhouettes of cowboys or open fields and meadows can also work.
- 4). Accessorize the room with little things that complete the cowboy look you're going for. Old boots or water pails can be used as vases or lamp bases. Trim lampshades with rope. Statues of horses or boots can grace your tables or shelves. Add toss pillows covered to look like red bandannas or in denim. Add a rug with a cow print.
