How To Project Self-confidence In An Interview
Now you have written an amazing cover letter. Your resume, was simply perfect. All the emails you have sent your perspective employer have been flawless. Now it is your time to shine. re you ready?
Confidence and the projection of self confidence are two totally different things. You must have an inner confidence, that will allow you to be cool, calm, and collected. However, projected confidence is how we walk, talk, speak, act, demonstrate, shake hands, look, and feel to the employer. This is where our How To's will come in handy!! Projection of confidence!
Fact is 3 out of 4 job seekers that are interviewed are vastly under prepared for the interview. From the information they gather on the company, to how they dress, how they speak, how they project themselves, to even remembering their resume and job history properly. Here are some simple solutions to this very complex and difficult problem. Here are your How To's to knock the cover off the ball in an interview:
1. PROPS. In an interview situation you are nervous. 99% of all people who are getting ready to be interviewed are nervous. So how can we calm our nerves a bit. Props. Here is what I mean. If you are on your way to an interview, stop off at Starbucks, and get a cup of coffee, tea, or an ice drink. Something that has a lid, no straw, and is spill proof. It will accomplish two things. First, it will keep our hands calm and not fidgety. When we are nervous, our hands sweat, we will ring them, play with our finger nails, rub them on our pants. By having a cup of coffee or a drink in our hands, it allows our body to be focused and keep still. Also it projects an air of confidence to the perspective employer. You stopped for a cup of coffee, and this is a meeting like any other. You are here, cool, calm, and collected. When walking into an interview, you have a different look and feel, and that is exactly what they want. In fact if you can purchase the drink from their plaza or area the business is close to, this is a great thing to talk about, because they may LOVE that cafe as well!!
2. WORDS. The words we use are vital in our confidence and projection of self confidence. You should never use words like: Hope, Maybe, If it's OK, I think, Possibly, Not Sure. These words project weakness, not only to the employer, but it limits our empowerment and feelings. When we are weak in our words, it affects our body language, attitude, and outlook. What you project you become. You must use words of "power" and "purpose". Use words like: Definitely, Absolutely, 100%, No Doubt about it, I am, No Question. When we use power words or phrases, it affects us as well. Our posture is better, we are more attentive. We are craving the next question instead of hoping that it isnt something hard. The words we use, become the projection of confidence for the job seeker and the employer.
3. RESEARCH. OK, this seems like a no-brainer, but you would be shocked at the number of people spend very little if not time at all preparing for their interview. It is amazing. People will spend more time researching a car, TV, stereo, than researching the company they want to work for. Their history, product, service, opportunity, culture, and mission. Why in the world should an employer want to know anything about you, give you money, when you wont even research them. Take the time, find out who they are. Dazzle them with the knowledge of them. The good and bad. The things you would fix or do. Knowledge is power, knowledge is leverage. Have the power and the leverage in your interview!
4. HOME. You may be asking yourself, home? Yes, home. Forget all about home. Meaning leave behind the worries of bills, school problems, kids, and spouse. Forget that you NEED this job. You NEED to pay your bills. Forget all the troubles you are facing. Focus on what is in front of you. Focus on what it is you want to achieve and how you will achieve. DO NOT put unnecessary burdens on yourself. Those worries will be there when you leave that interview with good news, and they will not be so worrisome after all!!
5. ABC. ABC? Always Be Closing. Thats right. You need to be closing who you are, what you are, and what you can do each and every time. Close. Close the employer on your abilities. Close the employer on your qualities. Close the employer on your skill set. Close the employer on your aptitude. Close the employer that you and you are alone are the perfect fit for this position. Don't assume the employer will close him or herself. You connect the dots. You tell them what you want. It is your job to have. Close them on all the reasons why, never leave to doubt or to question, in their mind!
