Two Legendary Historical Cities Of Gujarat

Rajkot is renowned worldwide for its several impressive educational institutions and colonial buildings. It is the capital city of princely state of Saurashtra. Great legend, Mahatma Gandhi spent some early years of his life at Rajkot. During that period, Mahatma Gandhi's father was a Diwan or Prime Minister to the king of Saurashtra. The city was used as the headquarters by the British government in that era.

Today, Rajkot is a vibrant city with loads of business activities and educational qualities. It is famous for textiles, silver and a National weaving institute that encourages traditional weaves. It is known as an important industrial area and is a religious centre for the Arya Samaj people as well. Rajkot is well connected to many other parts of the state and country. There are several flights that fly to and fro from here on a daily basis. Rajkot also features the Western Railway broad gauge line that makes the city a junction. And if you are travelling via road then there are several private operators that offer day and night transport services to different places of Gujarat.

Similar to Rajkot, Dwarka is another city of Gujarat that holds an eminent past and is even today famous for its culture and traditions. In fact, the city of Dwarka has the famous Dwarkadhish temple where Lord Sri Krishna once had his palace. And therefore this place is regularly visited by pilgrims and other travellers throughout the year. Apart from this temple, a very famous attraction of Dwarka is Bet Dwarka. It is just a few kilometres away from Dwarka but reaching here could be actually exciting. Bet Dwarka is basically an island, from where you have to locate the ruins of Bet Dwarka. To reach here a ferry journey has to be boarded.

From Rajkot to Dwarka the total distance is around 238 km and since there is a managed connectivity between these two cities of Gujarat, travelling is not at all an issue. The Gujarat State Transport runs several buses from Ahmadabad, Jamnagar, Rajkot and other important towns in Gujarat to Dwarka. Jamnagar which is 145kms away from Dwarka has the nearest airport; so you can fly down through cheap flights to Jamnagar and can take further a cab or a taxi to reach Dwarka. Else, you can catch a direct train to Dwarka as it lies on the network of the Indian Western Railway. For all those travellers coming from outside Gujarat, there is no direct route to Dwarka. They have to take connecting trains from Ahmadabad, Jamnagar or Rajkot to Dwarka.
