How to Make Tall Wedding Centerpieces With Fresh Flowers
- 1). Purchase fresh flowers and decorative foliage from a florist, making sure that flowers and foliage remain uncut. Long-stemmed flowers appropriate for a wedding include roses, tulips, lilies and orchids. Include floral embellishments such as juniper, baby’s breath, eucalyptus, mistletoe, palm fronds, and other fresh accents and decorative foliage to create tall centerpieces with fullness and dramatic height.
- 2). Select tall, narrow vases for your centerpieces. Use clear glass or crystal vases for an elegant look, or use metal or ceramic vases in deep shades for a dramatic or romantic effect.
- 3). Use a ruler to measure the vase height. Cut flower and foliage stems at an angle with the flower shears so that each piece reaches 1 to 8 inches taller than the vase itself when placed inside. Cut flowers and foliage so that your main flowers are mid-height, with foliage and other floral accents resting below or reaching above your main flower bouquet.
- 4). Add a 3- to 5-inch layer of stones or marbles to the bottom of the vases to prevent centerpieces from becoming top-heavy and to keep flower stems nestled in place. Fill each vase one-third full with water. Place your bunched flowers and foliage inside, arranging them as necessary until you achieve the desired look.
