Profound Déjà Vu
This took place in July 1991 in Burlington, Vermont. I was 18 years old and had just moved two weeks earlier to the United States from Austria. Earlier that year, I had been accepted to UMASS Amherst for college. This was before the Internet age, and I had never been to Amherst since I had just moved from overseas. Also any photos I had seen were limited to the thin UMASS brochure.
I was excited and a little anxious about attending college.
In July, I had an incredibly vivid dream where I was running up a narrow street with an arm full of books, completely stressed out that I was late for class. The dream had a crisp, real quality that I rarely had experienced. I woke up from the dream, and was so relieved it was just a dream. Bear in mind when I woke up my heart was pounding a little from the anxiety I felt in the dream. Also, just so you know, I never really have vivid dreams, let alone recall them much.
Fast-forward two months later. My first week of college. I walked down to the campus bookstore to buy books. I didn't count on the store being so crowded. You can see where this is going. Long lines caused me to be late for class. I left the store with an armful of books. Realizing the time, I started rushing up the narrow street. I was very anxious because being a freshman, I was particular about not missing class, etc.
Halfway running up the street, it hit me. I suddenly knew I had been there. It was déjà vu times 10 because of the vivid dream.
Everything was the same. The pitch of the road, my stress, the weather, the breeze, buildings, etc. Down to the T. I knew at that point that my dream had been prophetic. Bear in mind, I had never been to that area of campus before where the bookstore was. It gave me chills up my spine. I am in my 40s now and have never forgotten this. I also have never had a prophetic dream before or since that incident.
