Having type 1 diabetes means that you will need to begin relying on products and services that you didn't need before.
For the last eleven years since I was first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes I have been to different pharmacies, used different products to handle low blood sugar levels, and tried out different types of glucose monitors (the device that tests blood sugar levels).
I have come to realize that these three things may be some of the most important things in my life, and I have found the places and products to use.

The multiple Walgreens that I have been to have had hours of operations ranging from eight o'clock in the morning until ten o'clock in the evening.
At first you might not think that the hours a place is open is a big deal because you can just manage your schedule to work.
But why? With all of the choices we have today shouldn't you be able to pick up a prescription basically any time of day.
Well, with Walgreens you can.
Another great part of Walgreens is the prescription refill process.
You can either call and speak to computerized machine, which is actually a lot better than it sounds.
It is really easy and quick to do with them.
They also offer a smartphone app, which is a game changer.
You can just go on your phone and within a few seconds you can refill any prescription that you have with them.
On the app, it will also tell you when they receive prescriptions, when they are ready, and how much you will be paying when you pick it up.
It allows you to see how many refills on the prescription that you have available too, which is nice because then you can contact your doctor earlier and have them send the refill before you need it, instead of having to wait.
Another valuable part of the Walgreens pharmacy app would be that you can transfer your prescription to any Walgreens location in just seconds; this became very useful to me during my college days when I was living in two different towns a year.
There are a lot of benefits for switching to Walgreens, and I highly recommend it.

Living with diabetes has many challenges and one of the most important challenges is making sure that your blood sugar does not drop too low.
There are many ways to deal with low blood sugars, mainly by eating or drinking something that has a good amount of fast acting carbs in it so that you sugar will increase in a timely manner.
But what do you do when you are out and about and do not want to carry a can of pop or food in your pockets to handle possible lows? Personally, I do not leave my house without a pack of glucose tablets.
Glucose tablets can be purchased at most grocery stores and at most pharmacy, and can be found in the diabetic section.
Each glucose tablet is about the size of a starburst and contains four grams of fast acting carbohydrates.
You can purchase a container of 50 glucose tablets, and also a small container that only holds ten tablets to bring with you.
Any time I feel like my sugar is low or dropping, I just a couple of glucose tablets and then I instantly feel like my low has been taken care of.
Having these glucose tablets on me makes me feel much more comfortable throughout the day knowing that I do not need to worry about my blood sugar levels dropping.
The last thing I am going to recommend is my Medtronic One Touch Ultra blood glucose monitor.
This thing is my lifeline, and I don't go anywhere without it.
The actual meter is only about three inches long and barley weighs anything.
It comes with a very slick and small case to carry it in.
my favorite part about this glucose monitor is that it is small and its case has a very convenient Velcro pouch that I actually use a my wallet.
So basically I have a wallet/glucose monitor all in one small package.
Other than its perfect design, it dependability is why I really recommend it.
I have had other glucose monitors that will not function when they get too cold or even too warm.
With this Medtronic glucose monitor though, I have never faced this problem, and I don't think anybody should.
One of the most important parts of a glucose monitor is its accuracy.
Try checking your blood sugar two consecutive time, chances are you will get two different numbers.
With other glucose monitors those numbers can have a range between 20-80, but with my Medtronic I rarely see more than a 10 point difference.
