Romantic Dinner Foods

Romantic dinners can be very special, creating an ambiance and mood that couples will enjoy and cherish. There are some foods that lend themselves to romantic meals, some due to scientific evidence, some due to the cost involved, and some due to pure taste alone. Plan romantic meals around foods you both enjoy and let the romance begin.

    Seafood

    • Oysters are considered to be an aphrodisiac, or a food that increases sexual desire, although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that there is no scientific evidence that this is true. Nevertheless, many people view oysters as a romantic dinner food. Other seafood, including fish and shrimp, can also be part of a romantic dinner. Hand feed shrimp to your partner for a romantic twist on eating. Most grocery stores have a seafood department, or check your local fish market for today's catch.

    Steak

    • Steak is considered to be a romantic dinner food because of the increased cost of purchasing high quality meat. Quality steak can be found in the meat department of most major grocery stores or special gourmet stores. Try making steak carpaccio, filet mignon, or a seared rib steak.

    Fondue

    • Fondue can be a romantic dinner food, as well as a dessert. Heat peanut oil in a fondue pot and have small chunks of steak, seafood and chicken for each of you to cook in the oil using fondue forks. Offer a variety of dipping sauces, such as cocktail sauce, barbecue sauce, and sweet and sour sauce. For dessert, create a chocolate fondue for dipping chunks of fruit, pound cake and pastries. Feed each other and enjoy. Fondue equipment can be found at many cooking stores.

    Wine

    • While technically not a food, almost no romantic dinner is complete without wine. Choose a white wine to go with seafood, a red wine to complement meat, or simply choose a wine you both enjoy.
