How to Disassemble an Airsoft Gun
- 1). Remove the magazine from your airsoft gun and clear the chamber. Depending on the style of your gun, you may have to release the hammer to ensure no bullets remain in the gun. Squeeze the trigger several times in a safe area to ensure the gun is empty.
- 2). Remove the many small screws located throughout the gun. While the kinds of screws range greatly among the many brands and styles of airsoft guns, Phillips head screws are commonly used. Depending on your gun, this process may take several minutes. Pistol-style guns may contain less than half a dozen screws, while larger, shotgun- and machine gun-style airsoft guns may contain at least 15 screws. While most airsoft guns are held together with screws, some will require an Allen wrench to remove certain bolts.
- 3). Place the screws in a magnetic bowl to ensure they are kept safe. You may wish to make notes about which screw came from which hole, as several different lengths of screws are used in larger airsoft guns.
- 4). Pry apart the two sides of the airsoft gun with your hands. Insert a small pry tool in the opening to help separate the pieces, if required. If the pieces are still not coming apart, ensure that you have not missed a screw.
- 5). Lay each side of the airsoft gun on a table and examine the interior of the gun. Depending on whether your gun is spring-powered, electric-powered or air-powered, it will have different parts. If you wish to disassemble your gun further, you can remove the spring in the barrel or the battery pack. A number of pins hold the trigger and hammer apparatuses in place. To disassemble these, hold a fine-tipped awl against each pin and tap it lightly with a ball peen hammer.
