How to Make a Hunnish Bow

    • 1). Place a 2-by-6-inch board on a workbench with the large side facing upwards. Draw an unstrung Hun bow stencil onto the wood using a pencil. The upper limb should be 4.5-inches longer than the lower limb. The ends of the limbs should point forward at a 45-degree angle. Cut the shape out using a jigsaw. Set aside the top portion of the wood. This stencil will serve as a bow mold.

    • 2). Place your PVC pipe onto the bottom portion of the mold. The cut portion of the wood should be facing upwards. The PVC pipe may overhang the mold on each side by several inches. The excess pipe ends will be sawed off in a later step.

    • 3). Plug in and turn on a heat gun. Move the heat gun over the PVC pipe in slow sweeping motions in a manner similar to that of a hairdryer. Do not let the heat gun stay in one place too long, as it will scorch the plastic. Do this until the PVC pipe is thoroughly pliable. Turn off the heat gun and set it aside.

    • 4). Press the top-half of the wood mold firmly onto the bottom half, sandwiching the warm PVC pipe in between. Wrap the two wood pieces together tightly using rubber exercise bands. Turn the mold on its side so the excess PVC pipes extending beyond the mold lay flat against your workbench. Position them at 45-degree angles facing forwards, being sure to aligning them with the rest of the bow, then pour cold water on them to harden them in place. Allow the rest of the bow to dry at room temperature.

    • 5). Remove the rubber bands and wood pieces. The PVC should be in the shape of a Hunnish bow. Measure four inches down the excess pipe on each limb beyond where the mold ended; these parts will be round instead of flat. Mark the spot with a marker, then saw off the excess PVC using a hacksaw.

    • 6). Draw a line on either side of the limbs facing inwards at a 45-degree angle; these are the nocks where the string is placed. Wrap tape around the handle to make it more comfortable and stylish. String the bow with a bow string, then test it by shooting an arrow.
