History:

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum was founded in 1960, with its name based on the famous Desert Caballeros (DC) trail-riding group located in Wickenburg.

The Museum officially opened to the public years later on May 8,1969, in a building which was originally built in 1906 as a general store.

In 1972, a fire gutted the building and destroyed many items from the Museum's collection. Funds were raised, and a new Museum was built and opened to great fanfare on December 21, 1975.

In 1985, the Museum underwent a three year expansion, which added a "Native American Room, Mineral Room, expanded Art Gallery, classrooms and a new temperature-controlled storage area for the Museum’s art collection."

A sculpture garden park opened on November 26,1988.

In 1996 and 2008, the Museum was accredited by the American Association of Museums.
