How to Choose a Siding Color

    • 1). Look at your home and its surroundings. What color are the other houses on your street? You will want to choose a color that harmonizes with the rest of the neighborhood. You will also want to pick a color that will not clash with your landscaping. If your yard is heavily wooded, you may want to choose an earth tone.

    • 2). Look at the parts of the house with fixed elements as well as the overall structure of the buildinmg. Is it brick or stone? How is the roof structured? The siding color should coordinate with the rest of the house.

    • 3). Look at the style of the house. Is it, for example, a Craftsman, Colonial or Victorian? Take a cue from the home’s style when deciding which siding to choose. Opt for a siding color that makes sense with the architecture and history of the home.

    • 4). Decide what effect you want the siding to make. Do you want the house to appear larger? If so, choose a light color. Or, for a smaller perspective, go with a darker color.

    • 5). Consider using more than one color of siding for two stories homes. Put the darkest shade on the bottom floor of the house. The medium shade should go on the second floor, and the lightest shade on the top. If you put the darkest siding on the top part of the house, it will appear top-heavy.
