How to Speed Up DSL Through Modem Settings

    Instructions

    • 1). Check the present speed of your DSL connection by running a speed test on it. To do this, open your web browser and go to www.speedtest.net.

    • 2). Choose the location for your server, as shown on the website, and start the test. Depending on the speed of your connection, you may need to wait awhile before it shows your speed.

    • 3). Record the speed of your DSL connection. You will use this as a reference point to determine if there is a decrease or increase in the speed of your DSL modem connection after changing the modem settings.

    • 4). To maximize the speed of your DSL modem, download DSL Speed 6.2 speed booster software, which will optimize your modem's settings for you (see Resources). Click "Download Now" to start the download.

    • 5). Decompress or unzip the file to a folder on your computer using any software that can handle zip files, such as 7-zip or WinRAR.

    • 6). Install the DSL speed booster software and start the program. Choose "Process," then "Advance," and then "Optimize." Choose the "Process" option once more, then reboot your computer after closing all open windows.

    • 7). Go back to the Speedtest website once the computer is fully rebooted, then run the speed test again. Record the new speed and compare it with the original speed. You should notice a significant speed increase.

    • 8). Empty your browser cache regularly, as a full browser cache can slow down your Internet connection speed. To do this, consult the help file on your browser, since the procedure is different for each browser.
