Dog Conditioning Using Planned Activities

If you own a dog one of the things you need to provide for them is exercise.
Just like in humans, dogs that receive an adequate amount of exercise stay in the best condition, Dog conditioning through diet and exercise can ensure not only a healthy body but a healthy mind as well.
Dogs that are on a regular schedule of exercise burn up excess energy and this tends to make them less bored and less likely to get into destructive habits such as chewing.
The addition of indestructible dog toys also aids in this.
Dogs that are occupied with exercise and tough dog toys for play don't usually destroy things like your furniture, or shoes! Providing them with this kind of toy is cheaper in the long run than replacing furniture.
If you don't have any ideas of activities you can do with your dog, here are some suggestions.
* Regular daily walks: some breeds are adequately exercised just through daily walks.
However if you have a higher energy dog, such as a working, herding or hunting breed try walking with a partner and find an open area where the dog can run.
If one person stands at a distance from the other and you call the dog between you the dog will happily run back and forth, burning off the additional energy these breeds have.
There are extra long leashes that allow this, if you live in an area that has a leash law.
* Bike riding: There is a device that you can hook unto your bike that allows the dog to accompany you on your ride, while still being "on leash" which is often a local regulation.
Dogs love this as they get to go faster than a walk will allow.
* Hiking or X-Country skiing: Take your dog on a hike or x-country skiing in winter, they can even assist you when skiing if you get tired! The same long leash is appropriate to use here as well.
* Retrieving: A simple game of tossing a toy for your dog to retrieve multiple times is a great idea most dogs enjoy this and you do not need a lot of space or even time to fit this in your routine.
If your dog would rather play 'keep away' you can train them to give up the toy by exchanging it for a treat.
Some tough dog toys suitable for retrieve would be a Wubba, Fire-hose Toss Toy.
Or Air Jack.
Use your imagination, most likely your dog will enjoy any activity as long as it is with you.
As a side benefit you can also use this time for your own conditioning as well!
