the Clutter: Tips to Help You Organize Your Room

Is there a room in your house that is loaded with a bunch of stuff that you rarely use, but never bother to throw any of it away?  You may refer to it as a "junk room".  That is what my mom called that room when I was growing up.  Does it always feel like its messy and crowded?  If so, working on decluttering your room and organizing it can do wonders to help you enjoy that room once more and to give that room a purpose in your home.

Clutter can create stress.  Organizing any room entails being able to find things when you want them, and also it's about creating a calm, clean and welcoming environment where you can relax and work efficiently.   With any process, you need to, first, decide what you want the purpose of the room to be.  Identify the major things you want to keep and the ones you want to throw away or get rid of.  Take everything out and the put everything back together.  It will take time and effort as any task would, but it can be accomplished with positive and lasting results.  With these things in mind, here are a few helpful tips on how to organize your room so you can achieve a room that is peaceful and comfortable and serve whatever purpose you wish it to have.

Above all you need to start with a plan and determine a purpose for the room and what it will need to have in order to serve you and or your family well.  Is it a room for TV, exercise, games, reading, crafts, sleeping, or office?  Those are just a few of the many different kinds of rooms that could be your new room.  After you have determined the function of the room you will need to make a list of the items required to perform the activities that will be taking place there.  How much space will that take up and will you have space to store those items when they are not in use?  It might help if you made a sketch or drawing of the room to get a better picture in your head of what you want it to look like.

Next, in order to organize the room you need to purge, sort, replace and maintain.  Start off by selling, donating or trashing absolutely everything that you think is unnecessary.  Sort through your closets, drawers, and cabinets, in the room and get rid of the junk.  Identify items that you would like to have stay in the room and place them in a strategic manner so they can be easily available.  Try to be as consistent as possible when placing such item as to not create more clutter. If there happens to be left over storage space within the room, feel free to store, less frequently used item there in closets, cabinets, shelving and drawers.  Be sure to clearly label and neatly organize and arrange those things properly.  If you have the funds, you may feel the need to take it a step further and replace the boxy, bulky TV and maybe that old out of date treadmill, with newer more space efficient ones.  Lastly, and probably most important you need to maintain the cleanliness and keep your new space organized and free of clutter.  Keeping a tidy room take some effort but it is worth every minute.

Having an organized room can have a huge impact on your life.  If you are strong enough to throw away the junk, you can have the room that your heart has always desired.  Take the time to sort and organize.  Be consistent with up keep and sit back and relax.  You can do it.  You just have to begin.
