Days Flashback: John and Marlena"s Interrupted Wedding
After years apart, thanks to Stefano and Kristen's masterful manipulations, Days of Our Lives' John and Marlena finally found their way back to one another. The couple professed their love and made plans to marry. Their big day finally arrived on July 18, 1997.
However, as John stood at the altar waiting for his beloved Marlena to walk down the aisle, she was nowhere in sight. John tried not to worry, even though it wasn't like Doc to be late.
Little did he know there was plenty to worry about.
Back in the bride's room, Kristen arrived with a surprise for Marlena. When Marlena saw her nemesis, she couldn't believe her audacity. "How dare you come here, today," she spat. But evil Kristen wouldn't be deterred. She announced that she had "a special present" for the bride, something that Marlena really needed look at.
Kristen walked to the door and motioned to someone outside, who promptly wheeled a sleeping man with a bandaged face into the room. Marlena was confounded. She stared at the bandaged face and quietly muttered, "It can't be." "Oh, but it is," retorted Kristen. "It's Roman Brady."
It turned out Marlena's "dead" husband was actually alive and still deeply in love with her. Needless to say, it put the kibosh on her wedding day to John.
Of course, it wasn't the Roman Brady viewers remembered, fan favorite Wayne Northrop. This time around, Josh Taylor, who had previously played Chris Kositchek, was portraying the character, and the storyline explained his new, reconstructed face.
Roman had been exposed to chemical weapons, while rescuing hostages during a dangerous ISA assignment.
It was a bold recast move on Days' part, considering the popularity of Northrop and his wonderful chemistry and rapport with Deidre Hall (Marlena). Nevertheless, the show forged ahead with it. Taylor continues to portray Roman to this day.
