How to Make a Bird Head Mask

    • 1). Cut out a triangle that is 8 inches long and 6 inches wide from a piece of construction paper, felt or piece of foam using a pair of scissors. Choose a color of paper, felt or foam such as orange, yellow, gray or black.

    • 2). Fold the triangle in half lengthwise to create a curve in the beak. Place a line of craft glue along the back edge of the base of the triangle. Press the triangle's base over the nose portion of a plain plastic mask. Hold the beak in place until the glue dries.

    • 3). Glue layers of colored feathers over the surface of the mask. Position the feathers so the hard, pointed ends are glued to the mask with their soft tops protruding from off the mask. Cut some feathers in smaller lengths and glue them to the bridge of the nose and cheekbone portions of the mask. Glue the ends of some tall feathers to the center of the mask between the eyes so the feathers stand up straight.

    • 4). Apply thin lines of glue over the feathers around the edges of the mask, around the eye holes and over the bridge of the nose. Sprinkle glitter over the glue or press rhinestones into the glue to add shine to your mask.

    • 5). Add glitter and rhinestones to the base of the beak attached to the mask. The decorations will add character to the beak while hiding the seam between the beak and mask.

    • 6). Glue one end of a length of ribbon to the bottom of a wooden dowel, 1/4 inch in diameter and 10 inches long. Wrap the ribbon around the dowel working your way up the length to cover it. Glue the loose end of the ribbon to the top of the stick.

    • 7). Attach the top 1 inch of the stick to the right side of the mask. Place a line of hot glue on the back side of the right edge of the mask. Press the top 2 inches of the dowel into the glue and hold in place until the glue dries. Glue a piece of ribbon or a feather over the portion of the dowel attached to the back of the mask. Use the dowel as a handle to hold the mask to your face.
