The Greatness of 80"s Arcade Games

As somebody who spent my pre-teen years in the 1980s, arcades were a big part of my childhood.
It's hard to visualize now, but you couldn't match the incredible atmosphere that arcades once had.
They were as dark as caves.
The only lights in the entire place were the ones resonating from the screens.
The joystick and buttons were covered in grease from the pizza place next door.
It was a simpler time.
99.
9% of the video games actually only cost a quarter to play.
You always got your money's worth too.
I remember being able to play and beat Double Dragon on one single quarter many times.
You could spend a good couple hours in an arcade back then with just $5.
The games, although certainly not as flashy by today's standards, can still hold up in terms of fun and replay value.
The fun of games like Donkey Kong & Outrun still seem fresh.
Who can deny how addictive jumping over barrels in order to rescue the princess can be? Video games mostly consisted of a joystick with one or two buttons.
Obviously you didn't have to be NASA engineer to enjoy these games.
Video game designers back then didn't have all the high-tech power that can be used on video games today.
Whereas today, games have the super crisp graphics and cutting edge sound to help their presentation, 80's arcade games had to focus on gameplay without all the bells and whistles.
Even the lesser known arcade games of the time are still a blast to play.
Games such as Rink King, NARC, and Altered Beasts aren't household names but I deny anybody not to kill a couple hours playing them non-stop.
There is something so amazing about creating such quality products without the best equipment that people take for granted now.
After all anybody can start a fire with a lighter, but its a lot more impressive when it can be done with just a couple of sticks.
