- 1). Click on the "Start" menu.
- 2). Select "Control Panel" on the right side of the menu.
- 3). Click "Power Options" in the Control Panel window. Then click "Performance + Maintenance."
- 4). Click the setting your computer is currently on. Most computers are automatically on "Power Saver."
- 5). Find "CPU Processing Speed." Under it will be a line with a marker you can slide to the left or right. If the marker is toward the left, that means the fan is currently set on a slow speed. If it is toward the right, that means the fan is set on a fast speed. If it is in the middle, the fan is on an average speed. If your fan is running quickly and often, that means it is running too fast; slide it to the left to slow it down. If your fan is sluggish and not running often enough, that means it is running too slowly; slide the marker to the right to speed it up.
