How to Find Rare Performances by Sarah Polley
- 1). Seek a copy of the Genie Awards through the years. Polley has been a frequent fixture at this ceremony, even performing alongside co-star Cedric Smith (who played Uncle Alec in "Avonlea") in a song called "Children of the Island." She played the flute and did a sort of talk/rap to the music. You can get a copy from fellow fans, auction websites or from those who have taped the awards through the years for documentation purposes.
- 2). Look at the films of Atom Egoyan. Not only did Polley contribute her singing skills to several tracks on the soundtrack to "The Sweet Hereafter," but she also starred in the film. She also played a bit part in his film "Exotica," which takes a look at how people get to certain points of desperation in their lives. His direction of Polley brings out a couple of her best performances.
- 3). Look in the children's section of your local video store. Not only did Polley star in the first several seasons of the CBC/Disney Channel television shows "Road to Avonlea" and "Avonlea," but she also played the lead of Ramona in her first major television role. She played the infamous child heroine in the television show about an ordinary little girl with a big imagination from a lower-middle class family.
- 4). Polley also played a young, poor girl in "One Magic Christmas," and starred in "Johann's Gift to Christmas," a 1991 television special that received a limited video release as well.
- 5). Watch old episodes of "Friday the 13th." A very young Polley starred in an episode about a creepy doll with magical powers. It was one of her first performances.
