Night Life: a boon or bane?

Night life: a boon or a bane?

Eating weird is now new normal and eating at odd hours is catching the fancy of Chandigarhians. In the back drop of this is the choice for 24x7 eating jaunts in the city getting momentum. Traditional eating hours are on the verge of extinction. People today approach food any time, anywhere and any how. Restaurants encashing on the new mind set have also opened 24x7 offering sandwiches all day, selling pre breakfast, offering sandwiches and desserts all day.

A look at the editorial of a 24x7 eatery in Delhi will bear out how they are out to get people hopping out to it:  "Capture the very essence of multiple cuisines at 24x7 which is a family styled restaurant cum bar wherein one can savor varied cuisines along with appetizing and flavorsome beverages, juices, smoothies, mock tails, soft drinks and hard drinks to its customers. With its seating capacity for people, the restaurant remains open 24x7."

" One needs to shell around Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 for the nominal expense for twosome meal at 24x7. Payments here are accepted in cash as well as through credit cards. Waiter service and reservation are two of its customer comfort and convenience services." The restaurant also replenishes blues and pop music for creating tranquil and soothing environ for dining."

The present generations goes ga ga about such editorials and make a beeline to these establishments. This kind of weird societal norm prevailed in the western countries. Our traditions were purely satvik and simple. Anything weird was considered tamsik and people by large abhorred it. We have seen the fate of night food streets that the administration planned for the benefit of university students and attendants of patients of PGI. The night food street presented daily drunken brawls and unsafe environs for the families.

Even the coffee jaunts that remain open 24x7 have had gory scenes around them. One such restaurant in the city had closed the night menu till normal law and order was assured by the police department. Boozing by ladies is also becoming a trend which is a cause of concern. Our moral values depict a way of life that totally differs to what our new generation is adopting.

Night life begins after 6 PM. Some people head to bars straight from their offices where they remain putting until midnight. Administration has been setting up nakas to apprehend drunken drivers where many a interesting episodes involving high profile people were carried by the media. There are some who would first go to their residence for a change and then  head for night clubs, restaurants serving liquor. After mid night they head for ‘parties that are happening'

Opening 24x7 eateries that promote the weird atmosphere in the social fabric of the society are simple no- no and administration should simply refrain from granting permission to their opening. The easy money in the hands of people would prompt them to adapt to this lifestyle and shall not go to serve the people for whom these might be contemplated. We have to safeguard our moral values as taught to us by our predecessors. However small kiosks that serves only snacks etc. around hospitals or university may be allowed to cater to attendants of patients and students 24x7.
