How to Make a Kid's Grow Chart
- 1). Measure and cut the 2-by-6 lumber to exactly 4 feet long. One 8-foot section of 2-by-6 can be made into two growth charts.
- 2). Sand all surfaces of the lumber to reduce splinters and prevent children from hitting the sharp edges of the wood.
- 3). Paint the wood with a primer paint before using a color paint. Apply additional coats of paint to hide the wood grain showing through the paint. Do not paint the back; it will be hidden by the wall.
- 4). Sand all wooden letters with sandpaper so there are no splinters.
- 5). Paint the wooden letters with a primer paint before using a color paint. Decorate the letters as desired.
- 6). Attach a saw tooth hook to the back using the two small nails. The saw tooth hook should be installed about 3 inches from the top of the board. The "teeth" of the hook should face down.
- 7). Place the wooden letters on the 2-by-6 board as desired. Leave about 2 inches of empty space along one side of the board to allow for the measurements. Attach the wooden letters to the board using wood glue or hot glue. Allow the glue to dry before moving the board.
- 8). Place a tape measure next to the length of the board. With a pencil, mark the inch- and half-inch lines of the tape measure onto the board. Start with a foot mark at the base of the board. Each foot mark needs to be a little longer than the other marks. Be sure not to move the tape measure as you mark the lines.
- 9). Color over the pencil marks with a paint marker. Designate the foot marks beginning at 2 feet. Write a number next to each mark. Wooden numbers can also be used.
