Ometepe Island, located in the southwestern portion of Lake Nicaragua, is the largest freshwater island in the world. Consisting of two circular islands connected by a narrow isthmus, Ometepe has two volcanoes: the active Concepción and the dormant Maderas. The island has become a tourist destination that offers activities ranging from volcano climbing and archaeological excursions to relaxing on its secluded beaches. The Hotel Villa Paraíso, located on the Santo Domingo beach on Ometepe Island, offers 13 private cabins with views of Lake Nicaragua and the volcanoes.
