How and Where to Go Paragliding in Lima
If Lima’s history museums, art galleries and water fountains are all too sedate for your particular tastes, you can always try hurling yourself from the cliffs of Miraflores. Paragliding has become a well-established sport in the popular seafront district, providing one of the city’s greatest adrenaline rushes...
Tandem Paragliding in Miraflores
The most popular spot for paragliding in Lima is located at the cliiftop parapuerto (paraport) in Parque Raimondi, just a short walk north from the Parque del Amor in Miraflores (along the Malecón Cisneros).
Here you’ll find a handful of paragliding operators -- including Fly Adventure, AeroXtreme and PeruFly -- offering classes and tandem flights.
Tandem flights are the most popular option. For about S/.150 to S/.240 (US$52 to $84), you’ll find yourself strapped to an experienced paragliding instructor, who’ll take you up for a 10 minute flight above the seafront cliffs. From here, you’ll be able to see all along the coast, from the Parque de Amor to Larcomar and further on down to the beaches of Barranco and Chorrillos, and north along the Costa Verde.
Tandem Flights in Pachacamac
Some operators, including AeroXtreme and Fly Adventure, offer flights in the Pachacamac Valley, located in the Lurín district of Lima (about 20 miles southeast of Central Lima).
Pachacamac flights cost about the same as those in Miraflores, but last at least a few minutes longer (15 to 25 minutes in total) and tend to be more intense. The paragliding season in Pachacamac runs from October to April.
Paragliding Classes in Lima
Paragliding courses in Lima typically last from one to eight days, with the longer courses often spread out over a few weeks.
One-day courses allow you to experience solo flight at low altitudes, while longer courses involve more theory, higher altitude flights and, if completed successfully, the granting of a student pilot certificate from the Peruvian Association of Free Flight (APVL).
If you sign up for one of the longer courses, you’ll learn to fly in various locations, which may include Miraflores and Pachacamac.
