How to Build a Swing Stand

    • 1). Decide whether the swing stand is going to be a stand-alone or concrete-secured stand. According to the Wise 4 Living website, the dimensions and structure of the stand will be the same, but the final methods of support will vary.

    • 2). Build the swing posts by screwing and bolting two planks of wood together with spacers in the middle. Each post should be secured before the support posts can be added.

    • 3). Drill holes through the swing posts and four pieces of 4 by 4 lumbar. Secure a piece of 4 by 4 wood to each side of the swing posts at a 30 degree angle in order to form the A-frame support systems. According to the Creative Homeowner website, the A-frame support legs will rest on the ground or be secured with concrete depending on what type of swing stand is being constructed.

    • 4). Screw together two planks of wood in order to form a solid beam that will be attached across the top of the swing stand to connect the two swing posts. Drill holes into the sides of the beam and then bolt it to the tops of the swing posts. Add additional supports on the front and back of the beam that attaches the beam to the sides of the support posts.

    • 5). Install 4 by 4 spacer beams just above the A-frame on both of the swing posts in order to add extra stability to the swing stand. For a stand-alone swing stand, additional planks of wood will be added to the base of each of the swing posts in order to connect the A-frames on each side of the swing stand.

    • 6). Dig four holes with the posthole digger for a stand that will be supported in the ground. Position the legs of the A-frames into the pre-dug holes and pour the cement into the holes. For a stand-alone swing stand make sure that the stand is located in the desired position.

    • 7). Once the stand is in position or the cement has dried, apply stain to the swing stand in order to further protect the wood and provide a finished appearance. Add the swing or swings once the stand is firmly secured and the stain has dried.
