What Is 1st Birthday Cake Smash Photography?

If you have a baby you may have heard of 1st birthday cake smash photography. This is where you put your birthday baby and the cake together and see what baby does; then photograph what happens. The resulting photographs or video will keep the whole family amused for many days and parents or siblings may even delight in  using it to embarrass the star of the show as they grow older and consider looking cool the most important thing in life.

Most babies are very curious about their surrounding and don't hesitate to explore them by touch and taste. When you put them near a birthday cake they will certainly do both, but since their small motor skills are not yet to the stage where they have control, they will end up with lots of icing and cake all over them and the cake will be demolished. You could call it the ultimate birthday bash.

If you have invited guests to the birthday party, it would be wise to make two cakes; one for the smash photographs and the other for everyone else to enjoy. That way there will be no disappointed older siblings, although some children would not mind eating a smashed up cake.

It is a good idea to put baby and cake on the floor together for that baby photo shoot, so that at least the furniture can be spared. In fact out on the path or lawn is a better idea since you can simply hose off the remains instead of having to clean up your floor and surroundings. However, if you have a dog or cat it would be wise to restrain them - for some of the time anyway - so that they don't scoff all the cake before baby can enjoy it.

A cake smash photo shoot should be arranged for the time when baby is most likely to be awake and in a happy mood. That way you can be surer of getting photos that are really funny and enjoyable and baby won't be rubbing icing or cake crumbs into those sleepy eyes.

So, what props could make that photo shoot more amazing? How about a party hat to perch on the little one's head – and on the dog's head if you allow it into the photo or some wrinkled up birthday paper scrunched into balls. But not too much else or it might distract baby from the whole idea of the shoot, smashing up that cake. Just remember to make sure there is a nice background.
