How to Get a Stucco Look With Drywall Mud
- 1). Take the furniture out of the room. Lay tarps over the floor. Use your paint scraper to remove any peeling paint or material from the surface.
- 2). Spread a layer of primer over the whole surface using paint rollers. Allow the primer to dry for a full day.
- 3). Spread drywall mud over a section of about four square feet (a two-by-two area) using your rubber trowel. Make the layer about 1/4 inch thick on the surface.
- 4). Press the trowel into the mud, with the surface flat, then pull it straight out, leaving peaks where it was.
- 5). Set the trowel back into the mud, next to the place where you just had it, and pull it out again. Repeat and continue, pulling the mud again and again over the whole surface. Step back after every few sections and assess the whole area from a distance to ensure the texture is being applied consistently. Do the whole surface.
- 6). Let the textured mud dry for 48 hours. Fill your paint sprayer with primer and spray a light, even coat over the textured mud. Let it dry 24 hours. Repeat the spraying process with wall paint, adding two or three layers of it in thin, even coats to the desired appearance.
