- 1). Smell the drywall and the interior of the building that contains the drywall. Contaminated Chinese drywall will emit a sulfur gas that smells like rotten eggs.
- 2). Check your air conditioner for damage to the evaporator coils. Open the unit and locate the coils at the top of the unit. Many homes that have been found to have contaminated Chinese drywall have experienced a failure in the air conditioner evaporator coils. A freon leak will occur if corrosion of the evaporator coils persists.
- 3). Unscrew your electrical wall plates and check your exposed copper wire. If the copper wire is blackened you may have Chinese drywall.
- 4). View photo representations of Chinese drywall and compare it to your drywall.
