What to look for in a Moving Company
Looking for a moving company can be a hard and tiresome task. The first thing I can recommend is to first ask your friends and relatives if they recommend any mover.
Use the Internet's search engines like Google, try a search like: "your city" moving company. Call a few moving companies so you can get a feel for the way they handle their business. Get at least 3 price quotes.
Your moving company should be more then happy to give you a price in writing when you ask for it. Make sure there are no hidden costs such as long walks/carries, stair charges, trip charges, fuel charges or any hidden costs they might not want to tell you about.
Make sure your movers are licensed and insured with the State. Ask them about their insurance and if you are interested ask to see proof of insurance. Each State can be different on there required minimum insurance for moving companies, check to see if the moving company has the minimum required.
There are a number of third party businesses that might have reviews or reports of your mover. Using these might help but beware of companies that look like they have too many reviews, these may be fraudulent posts from the company itself.
If the moving company has a website visit it to be sure these are the movers you want in your home and handling your possessions. Most movers are professional but beware the companies that hire day laborers.
Make sure your movers have a good contact number for you and you have a number to reach them. They should call you before your move day to confirm. If you have not heard form them in a timely manner (at least the day before your move) you should contact them.
