Catering Home Business

Catering home business is a great idea especially if you have a family to take care of. There are, of course, things you need to consider before proceeding with such a venture.

Cooking from Home

How big is your kitchen? Do you have the proper equipment for cooking a large number of dishes in your kitchen? Catering business is very tempting especially when you have a family to take care of and do not have the option to get a job outside of your home.

However, cooking from home may also present you with problems.

Size or Number

If you hope to have a catering home business and plan to cook for events, whether small or large, you need to figure out how you can do that using your home style oven and existing cooking equipment. You need to know whether you have to purchase additional cooking accessories for your business? Where will you be storing the cooking equipment and accessories?

Let us say your catering home business managed to get an order for a hundred people. This would be a great start for your catering business, but remember that you will need days of preparation and cooking before the order can be ready to be sent to the client. And while doing all the work for your client, you will need to do all the other work needed by your family.

Health and Safety Issues

Catering home business does mean working from home but, it does not mean that health and safety issues do not apply. Laws and regulations require that you follow the same sanitation guidelines as that are being followed in a professional restaurant kitchen.

Having your children playing all around the kitchen as you are cooking will be a health issue. Another main issue will be if you have pets. If you are used to having your pets move freely into the kitchen as yu prepare food, you may have to start making sure that stops.

Office Equipment and Supplies

A catering home business is just that, a business. So you need to be professional about how you communicate with your clients. You will need some letterhead paper, or you can save some money by using your computer to print out your own letterhead.

Who will answer the phone? Remember that you have a home business and clients may call you at any time. It is not very businesslike to have young children answer the phone when clients call. Maybe you would do well to have an answering machine for when you are unavailable to take any calls.

A catering home business is a good way to earn money while working at home, and with some adjustments, any person who is a good cook and possess some basic business skills can make a great success out of it.
