Folding Chairs Are From An Ancient Idea

Folding chairs are a time tested idea and they still are evolving right before our eyes. You can visit any type of office, and school, and most homes in America, and find these chairs being used. They are convenient, they save space, and give good support. You can find them on patios, in gardens, at funerals, or at graduations. They have been around for centuries, and have been improved on and modernized for our convenience.

Should you go out shopping for the right chair for whatever use you may have for one, then you will quickly see that the amount of choices available can be a bit overwhelming. So many different materials are used to make them, and they have so many designs, that it really makes for a tough choice. Some feature cushions, some are plain, some have padding, some just cloth, and some are metal, wood, plastic, or any number of other materials.

Many of these chairs are beautifully adorned with nice fabrics and colors. You can get them with a round back, or you can get them squared. You can buy wooden ones, or metal, or plastic. Some of the woods are Mahogany, Natural Wood, Black Wood, Oak, Pine, and many others. There is literally no end to the different materials that these chairs are made from.

For places like a school or an office that has frequent use of these chairs, and wants to store them somewhere on the facility, there are racks made for storing and easy transport. Some are made to stack the chairs on, and others are more of a hanging type storage. But they come on rollers and can easily be moved in and out of whatever place they need to be stored in. They are known as chair caddies.

When it comes to finding a form of temporary seating, these chairs that fold out are the champs. They have excellent support, are very lightweight, and can match most any decor for the event you use them for. The different designs afford you the luxury of choosing the type best suited to fit your needs as well as fit in with your sense of style and taste.

These chairs have been around for a long time, and can be dated back to ancient Rome, Greece, and Egypt. The first aluminum folding chair was created by a man named Fredric Arnold back in 1947. His chair came with a fabric strapping for both its seat and its back. By the time 1957 rolled around, he had formed the Fredric Arnold Company in Brooklyn, New York. At that time they pumped out around 14,000 per day.

Nearly everyone has seen the behind the scenes look a movie making, and seen the foldout directors chair. This is yet another application of the concept that has found a good use in American culture. Some of the craftsmanship that is done, especially on some of the outdoor garden types, is simply beautiful and elegant, and a real addition to the decor.

While folding chairs are simple and efficient, they are also extremely practical for many situations. I would say that their overall service and convenience are what make them so popular and unique. Many times I have gone fishing and hunting, and pulled out my folding chair and settled in. They are a real credit to ingenuity and simplicity in an invention of need.
