- 1). Contact the bank or financial institution. For personal or cashier's checks, visit the branch in Texas or call the customer service number. For money orders, call the customer service number listed on the money order receipt.
- 2). Notify the bank or other institution that you wish to stop payment on the check. Most institutions will stop a check or money order. Some will issue stop payment on a cashier's check.
- 3). Submit the check number, check amount and check date. If you don't have the check number, normally the bank can find the check in question based on the amount and an approximate date of issue. Stopping payment on money orders will require the check number listed on the money order receipt. The bank will verify whether or not the check has been cashed. If not, you will be allowed to stop payment.
- 4). Agree to the fees associated with the stop payment. The bank will issue the stop payment order.
