Remodeling Ideas for Small Bathrooms
- Small bathrooms offer limited possibilities for remodeling. You may be tempted to keep the same size and placement for all of your fixtures simply for lack of a better idea. One of the best ways to maximize the space available to you in a small bathroom is to use the corners. You can install a corner-mounted sink, a corner shower stall or even a corner bathtub. Use features with a triangular shape that allows you to push two of the sides up against the corner, with a diagonal outward-facing edge. Corners are also perfect for mounting shelves both in the shower and above the sink.
- In a small bathroom space, you can give the illusion of a bigger room by providing as much open floor space as possible. Use a wall-mounted sink and a floating vanity to free up the floor. If you still want to use the area under the sink for storage, consider placing baskets filled with towels and toiletries on open shelves. This provides a nice decorative element as well as a storage solution. You can also mount racks beneath the vanity for a neat and handy place to hang hand towels. Mount shelving on the wall above the toilet, and take advantage of over-the-door towel racks to maximize your storage options while keeping the floor clutter free.
- The space constraints placed on you in a small bathroom don't mean that you have to skimp on decorating. In fact, the small area provided by a bathroom allows you to incorporate bolder elements. If you have a favorite bright color that you've been dying to see on the walls, this in the place to add it. While you're remodeling your small bathroom, take the time to paint the walls. You can also incorporate decorative tiles anywhere from the floor to the shower to the countertop. Install a mirror with a fun frame, or try out a different shape, using an oval or circular mirror in place of the traditional rectangular piece.
