Building a chicken coop can be quite a daunting task, especially if you are not familiar with construction.
But don't let the idea of building a coop distract you from actually doing it.
By using the helpful Do-It-Yourself tips found below, anyone can create the perfect chicken coop without any experience.
Tip #1 - Breathe and Take It Slow You are probably thinking that breathing and taking it slow is a strange tip when it comes to building a chicken coop, but let me explain.
Just like we said above, this process can be a rather stressful task.
It is important that you take time to relax, think about the way the coop should be constructed and most importantly - take your time.
If your in a rush, the project is more likely to be messed up.
Tip #2 - Use Good Lumber When you are building a chicken coop, you should really consider using high quality lumber.
Be sure that the lumber is weather resistant to prevent fungi and mildew from forming.
This could harm your chickens.
Tip #3 - Include Nest Boxes After you build the basic structure of the chicken house, you will want to add in a few nest boxes for your chickens to lay eggs in.
You do not have to make a nest box for each chicken since they don't mind sharing.
Just a few will get the job done.
Tip #4 - Don't Forget A Roosting Perch Chickens love to roost at night so by providing them a perch to sleep on will help keep the chickens from using your fruit trees or even your front porch.
Tip #5 - Consider Wiring If you have just a few chickens, you might want to consider fencing or wiring in a area in front of the chicken coop and have the ends connect to the coop.
This will allow the chickens to remain in the general area of the chicken coop and will also keep other animals out.
