How to Put on a Rochester Quadrajet

    • 1). Move the throttle cable, fuel line, choke wire and vacuum lines out of the way to provide clear access to the carburetor intake manifold on the engine.

    • 2). Identify the front of the carburetor by holding it above the intake manifold. The throttle linkage from your accelerator connects to the throttle lever on the side of the carburetor. By lining these up, you know which way the carburetor faces.

    • 3). Turn the Quadrajet over and position the intake gasket on the base of the unit. Notice the gasket is configured to fit one way. Determine the front of the gasket. Slide the gasket on the threaded studs on the intake manifold. Push it down fully into place.

    • 4). Align the holes in the base of the carburetor with the threaded studs on the manifold. Put the carburetor on the manifold. Put lock washers on each stud. Thread the nuts onto each stud clockwise by hand. Tighten the nuts in an alternating pattern with a hex-head box wrench.

    • 5). Thread the fuel line fitting clockwise into the opening above the fuel bowl on the carburetor. Hold an open-end wrench on the carburetor fuel fitting as you tighten the fuel line fitting clockwise with another open-end wrench.

    • 6). Position the throttle cable clip at lower edge of the throttle lever on the side of the carburetor. Hold the clip with one hand and insert the ball end of the throttle cable into the back side of the throttle lever. Push the clip firmly into place to secure the cable to the lever. Use pliers if necessary to push the clip into place.

    • 7). Connect the choke wire to the opposite side of the Quadrajet by pushing the connector onto the tabs on the carburetor. Connect the vacuum lines by pushing then onto the brass nozzles on the carburetor.
