The Fire Tower (Tuztorony)

The topmost attraction of Sopron is the Tuztorony. In fact, it can be considered as the emblem of Sopron. The edifice is unique, since its foundations are Roman, but the lower square base dated to 14th century. In addition, the cylindrical center with the Tuscan arcade is dated from the Renaissance age. The upper part of this building is a clock tower with a multi-storied onion dome (which was added during 1681-82), following a massive fire in the city. This fire tower soars up to the height of 222 ft providing awe-inspiring views of the city.

The Loyalty Gate

The people of Sopron are known for their loyalty to Hungary and the Loyalty Gate represents the same. This magnificent gate is situated in the south of the fire tower and was presented to the town in 1921, by the government of Budapest (capital of Hungary). Sopron was part of the counties that were firstly awarded to Austria in the Treaty of Saint Germain in the year 1919. However, after local conflict and a local poll on December 14, 1921, with 65% voting for Hungary, Sopron (along with eight villages close by) was given up to Hungary. The gate was built and presented to commemorate this occasion.

Storno-House (Museum)

Right adjacent to the tower is the Storno House, which is counted as one of the finest palaces (now museum) of the city. Established in the Middle Ages, the museum houses a huge collection of collectibles. Here, you can find the old porcelain artifacts, guild shops, ancient furniture, paintings, traditional wood carving and ceramics relics, which will simply leave you amazed. Well, it's not just the lavish interiors that are beautiful rather the Baroque exterior dating back to the 18th century leaves you awe-struck too. This structure also features a lovely courtyard that is formed from beautiful Renaissance arcades.

Old Synagogue

Another unique attraction you must pay a visit to is the Old Synagogue. This Synagogue is one of the oldest ones in Europe which dates from 1300-20, rather it was the first address of prayer of the Jewish community in Sopron. According to rules, non-catholic houses of prayer were not allowed in the city, therefore the synagogue was constructed in such a way that the real prayer house was located in the interior and the front side was used as shops. Under a high pyramid roof, this Old Synagogue consists of a large two-storied prayer hall, a prayer hall for women that is joined to one other only by observation cut and the ritual bath.

Apart from these, the Kecske Templom (Goat's Church) or Mary Church is another special tourist attraction in the city of Sopron. Visit EaseMyTrip flight booking page to book flight at lowest prices.
