How to Get a Copy of Your Husband's W-2 or Form 1099

    Husband’s Employer

    • 1). Contact the payroll administrator at your husband’s employer.

    • 2). Ask if they retain copies of their employees' W-2 or 1099 forms.

    • 3). Request a copy of the form you need if available. You may need to contact a separate payroll processing company, depending on the employer’s payroll process.

    IRS

    • 1). Visit the IRS website. In the search box, at the top right-hand side, type in “Form 4056.” You can also call the IRS at 800-829-3676 and request Form 4056 be sent to you.

    • 2). Download and print Form 4056.

    • 3). Fill out one form for each tax year for which you need copies. Return the form to the IRS with a check or money order for $57, as of 2010, made payable to the “United States Treasury” for each tax year you are requesting copies of. Note that the IRS will not provide any information to you if you are not also listed on the tax return.
